Welcome to Haven Ranch
Haven Ranch is a 20-acre family-owned ranch located in the beautiful
hills 30 minutes east of the world-famous wine region of Napa Valley,
California.
What began as our dream home - which we designed and built - is transitioning into a dedicated working ranch. We currently house six breeds of chickens who supply healthy, colorful, scrumptious eggs.
Although surrounded by picturesque vineyards and the wine culture, critters are what we enjoy most. Our family of animals include dogs, cats, horses and the chickens. We've also recently added Katahdin Hair Sheep to the ranch and are expecting our first lambs this spring!

Every Ranch Needs Security
Meet Inci.
It's early morning at Haven Ranch, and Inci
(pronounced In-Jee,) is at work monitoring her charges.
An ancient breed from Turkey, Anatolian Shepherd Dogs traditionally guard sheep or goats, but they will protect any animal placed in their care. Since Anatolians joined our family, Haven Ranch has become a sanctuary of safety for our young daughter, and our many domestic animals.
No small task is this, for our little piece of heaven is frequently visited by many of God's creatures - coyotes, mountain lions, foxes, bobcats, black bear and raccoons, to name a few.
While neighboring ranches continually lose livestock, our critters have remained bank vault safe. We have not lost a single animal to a predator.

Woody's a Horse of Course, of Course
Our American Quarter Horse, Woody, provides some good old-fashioned "one horse power" transportation when we need a break from ranch chores. He keeps us and the chickens company and is never far from his personal bodyguard Inci.
While Woody was never housed with a dog before, within 24-hours of being introduced to Inci's calm manner, this photo was taken. The two now are fast friends. Woody will refuse cover in a rainstorm to stand near Inci's doghouse.

Snake Medicine
Given our hot summer temperatures and rural setting, snakes of all kinds call Haven Ranch home. King, bull, gopher and rattle snakes all inhabit our property, or, more correctly, we inhabit theirs.
Snakes are both a blessing and a curse... particularly the rattling kind. To minimize danger around the house and coop, we discourage rodents - prime snake food - by storing food and grains safely. Our two felines, Krystal and Cosmo, support the effort. No poison, no traps, just their natural hunting instincts, put to good use.
